FAQs

1. How much does a fire pit cost?

Most fire pits cost between $150 and $3,000. Portable wood-burning bowls typically run $150–$600, gas fire pit tables $800–$2,500, and premium built-in burner systems $2,000+ before stone or enclosure work.

2. What's better: a wood, propane, or natural gas fire pit?

Natural gas is best for permanent installs with instant on/off heat and no refills. Propane offers the same convenience and portability. Wood-burning delivers real crackle and campfire aroma but produces smoke and ash cleanup.

3. How far should a fire pit be from a house?

Keep a fire pit at least 10 feet from any structure, fence, or overhanging branches — 20–25 feet is safer for wood-burning models. Always confirm local fire codes and HOA rules before installing.

4. Can you put a fire pit on a wood deck or patio?

Yes, with protection. Use a gas or propane model rated for deck use, place it on a fire-resistant mat or heat shield, and maintain the manufacturer's minimum clearance. Wood-burning fire pits are not recommended on wood decking.

5. What size fire pit do I need?

A 30–36-inch fire pit comfortably seats 4–6 people and suits most patios. Choose 40–48 inches for larger gatherings, and allow 3 feet of open space between the fire pit edge and any seating.
