Type of Gas Grills

Freestanding Gas Grills

Freestanding gas grills deliver flexible outdoor cooking on a wheeled cart. Available in propane and natural gas configurations, most models offer 2 to 6 burners, 300 to 700+ square inches of cooking area, and stainless steel construction for long-term durability. Also include a side burner, warming rack, and infrared sear zone, offering added versatility for all your cooking needs.

Built-In Gas Grills

Built-in gas grills are designed for permanent installation in outdoor kitchen islands. They connect directly to a natural gas line or propane supply, feature weatherproof stainless steel construction, and are built to tighter tolerances than freestanding models. They are the cornerstone of any serious outdoor cooking setup.

Portable Gas Grills

Portable gas grills run on 1-pound propane canisters and fold flat for easy transport, making them ideal for camping, tailgating, and travel. Most offer 150 to 300 square inches of cooking surface in a compact, lightweight design.

How to Choose a Gas Grill

Fuel type. Propane gas grills use portable tanks for flexibility anywhere. Natural gas grills connect directly to your home gas line, providing an unlimited fuel supply. Keep in mind, they can't be switched with propane grills without a conversion kit.

BTU output and burner count. A 4-burner outdoor gas grill in the 40,000 to 60,000 BTU range handles high-heat searing and low indirect cooking simultaneously. Two-burner models in the 20,000 to 30,000 BTU range are ideal for smaller households.

Cooking surface. A 300 to 400 sq. in. grill suits 2 to 4 people. Choose 500+ sq. in. for larger gatherings or complete outdoor meals.

Construction. Look for 304-grade stainless steel grates and burners. Cast iron grates retain heat exceptionally well for better sear marks.

FAQ

What is the Difference Between a Propane and a Natural Gas Grill?

Propane grills run off portable tanks. Natural gas grills tie into a home gas line for continuous fuel. Most models we carry are available in both configurations, but require the correct connection from the start.

How Long Do Gas Grills Last?

Premium gas grills from brands like Napoleon Grills, Blaze, Alfresco Grill, and many more last 10 to 15 years or more with regular cleaning and a grill cover. Most carry multi-year or lifetime warranties on stainless steel components.

Do I Need a Gas Grill With a Side Burner?

A side burner provides a separate space for sauces and sides, keeping the main grill surface clear and organized. It is a standard feature on many freestanding models in our collection.
