Buying an Electric fireplaces

Are you interested in  buying an electric fireplace, but you aren’t sure where to start looking? Maybe you’ve heard about them as an option and you want to learn some more about the specifics before you make your choice.

That’s reasonable, as electric fireplaces are a relatively modern invention and some might even argue that they lack the classic appeal of more traditional options. There are certainly people out there who wouldn’t be caught without a wood burning fireplaces, and some people who prefer gas because of its safety and the fact that it still affords the ambiance of a real flame.

All of that being considered, there are some really unique selling points of electric fireplaces that deserve a place for exposition, and Embers Living is the perfect place to show them off. We’re not saying that your home needs an electric fireplace - but at the same time, there are plenty of reasons people love them.

Check out some of these features that many of the  electric fireplaces that we offer, and keep in mind that there’s a look, a style or a model for any home! All you need to do is find it.

Excellent - Even Superior - Aesthetics

Among the many electric fireplaces and  linear electric fireplaces on our website, there is a style that can be suited to fit any setting. On top of that fact that we sell many different models that vary in size, their customizability goes well beyond this. Naturally some settings would be better complimented by the inclusion of a large two sided linear fireplace and others would benefit more by the adaptation to a smaller, more humble look. The thing is, this is only the beginning with the versatility of an electric fireplace.

Because electric fireplaces use electricity instead of gas or wood, there is a lot you can do with the color and the media they use. For example, the media at the bottom of a wood burning fireplace is going to be natural wood ash, which is beautiful in its own right, but very different from the aesthetic of a modern electric fireplace.

For example, some of the electric fireplaces on our website give you the ability to customize them with glowing electric logs and crushed glass or stone media. The color and finish of these media can be customized to a setting, and in addition, the lights can be changed for effect as well.

But that’s not all. The flame height, speed, bright, and even the color can often be changed with no more than the push of a button, which will help to complement the setting in its own right. Want to light a fire but only need a little ambient light? You can do that easily. Need a bright red dancing flame to set the mood? That’s easy, too. With an electric fireplace, you can set the visual aesthetics the way you want them, and change them too, often with no more than the touch of a finger.

You Can Use Them All Year

One of the other amazing benefits of electric fireplaces is the fact that you can burn them all year in order to add to the ambiance of a setting. Well, you can burn a wood fireplace or a wood stove or even a gas fireplace all year long, too, but there wouldn’t be too much reason to do so. You certainly don’t need a fire burning inside in the summer in a lot of places in the country.

That is to say, though you can easily control a gas fireplace, you can’t operate even one of these without heat. Where there is an open flame there is also heat, and that’s just a fact of life. Except with an electric fireplace, there is only a simulated flame, albeit a very realistic one. As a result, there is no heat released from the flames.

But there’s no downside to this, because most of the time electric fireplaces can be operated with or without heat. That makes them perfectly serviceable options inside in the winter when you would appreciate some supplemental heat. Many electric fireplaces also come with a blower and a heater that is more than capable of heating a room. However, when you want to enjoy the light of a fire without the heat, such as in the summer, you can simply turn the flames on and keep the electric heater off - it’s as easy as that.

Very Little Maintenance (If Any!)

Anyone who has ever had a wood fireplace may have loved it dearly, but there’s one thing that he or she can agree on with certainty. Wood fireplaces need a lot of love and maintenance in order to work correctly, and there’s no way around that.

Even well seasoned wood will result in a buildup of creosote that will need to be addressed over time and can become a safety concern. Again, you will need to manage the ashes that accumulate in the bottom. Too deep a bed of ash will cause your andirons to rust, and too shallow will not couch the flame properly.

Even gas fireplaces need maintenance from time to time, but the conditions that cause an electric fireplace to need maintenance are very few and even farther between. They burn no real fuel and release no emissions, so there’s nothing to clean up. For the most part, an electric fireplace is completely maintenance free. Once it’s plugged in or hardwired like some units can be, that’s all there is to it.

Control Them Easily and Efficiently

When you approach the matter from the position of experience of working with traditional fireplaces, electric fireplaces can be controlled with the utmost of ease. Even when compared alongside to the ease with which a gas fireplace can be controlled, electric fireplaces still seem so much easier.

Electric Fireplace with Television

Many electric fireplaces like so many of the ones on our site can be easily and instantaneously controlled by a remote control, and some of our fireplaces can be easily and conveniently controlled via a touch screen control panel.

Do you want to control the flame height? The color of the flames or the lighting of the media? Perhaps you want to control the heat or the movement of the flames? You can do that immediately and instantaneously with the push of a button, even with the convenience of a remote control. In some instances, you can even add the effect of sound for an additional impression.

It couldn’t be easier - now compare that to the skill required to build up or space out a traditional wood fireplace. To each their own, but we know some of our clients are in love with their electric fireplaces for that very reason, and many people buy electric fireplaces for the same.

They Are Safe

Then again, electric fireplaces are almost very safe. Don’t get us wrong, wood and gas fireplaces are safe as well, especially when you are experienced with their use and operation and observe basic protocols.

However, electric fireplaces are inherently safe by design and require few if any safety protocols to keep them so. In fact, some can even be operated without heat, as we mentioned earlier, to keep them safe when kids are around.

Because they produce no actual flames and don’t vent the excess heat up a chimney, there is virtually no risk of fire whatsoever with an electric fireplace. Even when you are extra careful with a real fireplace, you still need to be watchful - but with an electric fireplace, you can operate it worry free at almost any time.

No Smoke!

There’s something else to keep in mind about electric fireplaces, especially if you are shopping around for a unit right now. While some people love the smell of a wood fireplace, there’s also no way to really prevent it. Even the driest wood and the most skillful fire stewardship will not entirely cut out the smell of wood smoke.

If you like it, that’s great - get a wood fireplace. On the other hand, if you don’t, or you don’t want the smoke to get into the smell of your furniture and fabrics, you could get an electric fireplace. Naturally, since an electric fireplace doesn’t burn fuel, it produces no smoke and therefore no smell.

It’s about tradeoffs here, but it is something to keep in mind, and something that some people will appreciate in an indoor fireplace.

Energy Efficiency and No Emissions!

It can be tough to correlate the way that a wood fireplace burns wood and equate that to the fuel usage of a gas fireplace or an electric fireplace, but electric fireplaces, like some forms of electric heat, are very energy efficient. They can keep you warm while keeping the energy bills down and supplement your other uses of energy.

Then again, you won’t have to store wood anywhere, so that may be a bonus as well. As for gas fireplaces, there are many electric fireplaces that are as efficient or more efficient. In addition, as they use only electricity, they produce no emissions, unlike other fireplaces which do. That makes them the green alternative to other forms of heat!

Customize the Look

As we stated, you can even customize the look of an electric fireplace, which means that you can complement nearly any setting with one, and especially a modern setting.

There are plenty of wood fireplaces and gas fireplaces on our website that are fully contemporary and some that are regal and sophisticated. There is a look here for any interior setting, but to be sure, there is so much more versatility among our electric fireplaces that it’s no wonder they are so popular.

On top of the fact that you can choose the way they present, you can also customize them with logs, media and other accessories as we have already explained. The best thing to do is to look through our collection to get some inspiration for how you want your home to look and then buy an electric fireplace that matches that vision!
